President's Letter

Welcome to Pennekamp! If you have not already noticed, we are a special community of dedicated parents and educators whose efforts are united in providing our students the highest advantage in public school education. Our school embraces two organizations that play a vital role in the outstanding and well-rounded education our children receive. One is Pennekamp's own PTA (PKPTA) and the other is the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF).

As a nonprofit organization, Pennekamp PTA is responsible for not only providing a quality education, cultural experiences and academic enhancements but also to promote the welfare of our children and their families. The PTA organization relies heavily on all its members, both for financial contributions and/or volunteerism. With your help, we can deliver the best educational environment for our children.

The money raised by the PTA goes directly to our Pennekamp campus, to support academic enrichment programs, (such as Science Fair, Artist-In-Residence, and Grades of Green), cultural experiences (such as Talent Show, Book Fair, and Author's Week) and equipment and supplies (such as computers, software, Science Lab, paper, and ink).

The MBEF (www.mbef.org) is the nonprofit group that provides the Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) grants to bridge the gap between what the state gives MBUSD and what it actually costs to provide a quality education. MBEF's focus is funding the people needed to teach, reasonable class-size and parity among all schools within the district.

Together, PTA and MBEF fuel quality education for all the families at Pennekamp. Our school district is ranked fifth highest among all unified school districts in the state and it is because of the community of families and educators that work together to make public education a success.

We encourage you to join our PKPTA (www.pkpta.org) and donate during the MBEF's annual appeal. Together, we can maintain our superior education and continue to deliver a well-rounded academic experience.

Please join us at our first General PTA Meeting on Thursday, September 16th @ 6:00pm. Feel free to contact us in the meantime at president@pkpta.org.

Again, welcome to our Pennekamp Family! We very much look forward to seeing you and your children around campus!
