Tuesday Green Sheet

March 4, 2008

Pennekamp Families,

February certainly ended on a high note, as Pennekamp children performed their hearts out at our annual Talent Show last Friday. A large audience was treated to 83 acts which showcased a wide array of talents which ranged from singing, dancing, acting, musicianship, comedy and feats of skill and daring. Kudos to all of the children who bravely performed on a big stage in front of a live audience! A huge “Thank You” goes out to all volunteers who helped in so many ways, to the Mira Costa tech crew who expertly ran the show, and to the Pennekamp PTA for their support. We owe special thanks and commendation to Gail Goldstein for doing an amazing job of organizing and coordinating this gala event. It truly was a Leap Year evening to remember!

As we enter the month of March, we find ourselves in a time of seasonal transition as the weeks of winter wane and spring draws near. It also marks a transition for Pennekamp’s weekly Green Sheet. In keeping with our “Go Green” philosophy of being more environmentally conscious, the Green Sheet will be issued as a hardcopy only on the first Tuesday of each month. On subsequent weeks it will be available online in our Pennekamp Dragon eNews, which we hope that all families are onboard with our distribution list. The format for the first-of-the-month, hardcopy Green Sheet will be a delineation of the upcoming events for that month.

Green Ideas – Drive less – By saving just one gallon of gasoline (20-30 miles of driving for most conventional cars) you can prevent about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. To save that gallon, consider these ideas:  take public transportation or carpool to work one day a week, plan a route to make running your errands more efficient or start a program to walk or bicycle for part of the week.  Many Pennekamp families are now using walk-pools to get to and from school  on Wednesdays.  Consider joining or starting a group of your own.  Please direct any questions to Heather Spadone at teamspadone@yahoo.com.
